The History Of How The Club Started

When the Club was formed in 2009, the name “Islanders (Seychelles) Club Inc.” was used as it was already registered before the Committee was formed.  So the same name was retained and used to form a club that would be open to the Seychelles, Mauritius, Rodrigues and Reunion communities of the Indian Ocean.

The original founding committee members were:

Marjorie Vidot (President);  Stellio Jean-Pierre (Vice President);  Alise Pothin, Cecile Gertrude Norbert Mein, Rivalsz, Julita & Jose Mondon as supporting committee members.

In 2010 the club was officially active with members made up from family and friends of the founding committee members.  Gradually memberships increased and in 2014 there are 150 members.

Since 2010, the club has experienced a lot of success thanks to the support and contributions of the committee members and club members.  There have been many events e.g. dances, open nights, picnics, etc.  There is even an annual Christmas party free for all members.  The annual formal dinner dance to celebrate “La Bastille” has also been a great event and fundraiser for the club since 2010.

From the beginning, there was the intention to change the name of the club one day in the future.  A lot of thought was given by the committee and in consultation with the club members, it was decided that “Islanders Creole Club Inc.” was the most suitable name choice as it included members from all the islands of the Indian Ocean.

In 2013 at the Club’s “Annual General Meeting” members nominated and elected Stellio Jean-Pierre as Club President. According to the Club’s Constitution, Stellio will serve as President for 2 years and after this time the position will become vacant and available to any member who would like to lead the Club.

The current committee members of the Islanders' Creole Club are:

Stellio Jean-Pierre (President); Julita Mondon (Vice President); Gerard Laville (Treasurer); Marcia Jean-Pierre(Secretary); Cynthia Moirt (Function Co-Ordinator); Eddy Toohim (Assistant Function Co-Ordinator); Rivalz Mondon, Jean Vythilingum & Herve Moirt (Supportintg Committee Members).
